Augmentation Statistics:
Or, Most Augmentations Aren’t Registered

Introduction
In May of 2026, Kallinikos Gavras asked how many of the augmentations of arms awarded by the Middle Kingdom had been registered. I am easily distracted by spreadsheets and spent the next five months, on and off, compiling statistics on augmentations awarded and registered across the Known World.
The data used in this post comes from each kingdom’s order of precedence and the SCA Ordinary & Armorial. I put the data into a spreadsheet, and did my best to match up names in the OPs with registered names, accounting for recipients whose awards appear in multiple kingdoms’ OPs (sometimes under different names) and cases where the same name in different OPs refers to different people. In a few cases, I might have assigned an augmentation to the wrong kingdom, and it’s possible that I’m missing some augmentations, but I believe the data is mostly correct and complete.
The data and computations are available in a Google Sheets spreadsheet.
The O&A contains items registered through July 2026, so these statistics are based on awards given before 1 May 2026, as anything awarded later could not have completed the registration process.

Interesting Observations
King Albrecht von Rugen I & Queen Nasheeta Al-Rakkasa I were crowned as Avacal’s first royals on 27 June 2015. On 21 November 2015, they awarded 37 augmentations of arms, 8 of which have been registered. Avacal has awarded no further augmentations of arms.
On 8 August 2022 at Pennsic War XLIX, King Cuán IX and Queen Adelhait III of Atlantia bestowed 408 augmentations of arms.
The person with the most augmentations is Duke Palymar of the Two Baronies. He has received 7 augmentations of arms, all from the Middle Kingdom:
- 19 September 1998, royal augmentation, suggested form is a salamander
- 23 September 2000, royal augmentation, suggested form is a wreath of roses
- 15 August 2002, kingdom augmentation, which in the Middle Kingdom is traditionally Argent, a pale gules surmounted by a dragon passant vert (officially registered as a standard augmentation in February of 2010)
- 3 December 2011, royal augmentation
- 25 February 2012, royal augmentation
- 29 September 2012, royal augmentation
- 18 April 2020, royal augmentation, suggested form is a Green Midrealm Dragon holding a bronze sword
Duke Palymar registered his name and device in May of 1986, and has not registered any of his 7 augmentations.
